Abstract

Flyover to Beginnigs of Cinematography. – The present article is a dialog between early film history and philosophy. The film is regarded as medium. The problems arise from basic questions: When has the film become the medium? What does characterize the film as medium? Is filmgoer involved in film creation? The author tries to fully follow the Gilles Deleuze’s point of view – just application of philosophic theories on objects d’art is considered as deficient, constraining. Deleuze distinguishes art, philosophy, and science as three distinct disciplines, each analyzing reality in different ways but still being equal. The article is based on thoughts of French philosopher Gilles Deleuze (and Henri Bergson), British media scholar John Fiske and German philosopher Theodor W. Adorno.
