Abstract

Dear readers,

also at the end of the year we sincerely hope you all have sufficient time for constructive contemplation. PAIDEIA deserves a special place amongst your reading material! This is a double issue and includes an output of a conference concerning a project “Introduction of the new educational subject The Sociology of the Family: grant no. FR VŠ 285/2007”.

As a new editor of PAIDEIA I would like to stress the continued commitment of the editorial team to diligence and care in the preparation of this and future issues.

You will see that this monothematic double issue focuses on contributions which are about family problems. Oriental family models are presented in a contribution of Věra Halászová – The Dependence of the Contemporary Japanese Family on the Traditional Ideal Type and also in a contribution of Markéta Dvořáková – Family in the Islamic Tradition. The historical view concerning the development of the family is presented by two further contributions, the author of the first contribution is Miloslava Blažková, The Development Europeans Family in Artistic Context and the author of the second is Stanislav Holubec, Working Class Families in Prague 1918–1938. How to effectively present the subject of family problems is an issue analysed by Michaela Bloudková Dvořáková in her article Family as a Topic of Instruction. Finally, the phenomenological consequences of family and home are considered in some depth by Anna Hogenová in her study Home as a Problem. The Phenomenon of Home is a topic and the name of an article of Naděžda Pelcová.

I wish all readers of PAIDEIA very pleasant time while reading this monothematic double issue.
