Abstract

Philosophical and ethical preconditions of understanding. – The aim of this article is to emphasize the philosophical and ethical dimension of communication, which lies at the heart of all speech. This dimension is explicated in context of Gadamer’s philosophy of speech and Levinas’s philosophy of ethics. Our concept opposes the pragmatic and utilitarian concept of speech which is not aware of ethical preconditions of communication.
