Productive Character Orientation to the World by Erich Fromm – the Ability to Do and Understand

Abstract

The starting point of the concept of Erich Fromm is the understanding of a man being an unique natural being, whose meaning of life is taking action and conducting oneself in the process of self-creation and productive activity. This men’s activity is focused on the retrieval of the unity with the nature, people and the world. A man with a character orientation, different kinds of temperaments and talents under the influence of social and cultural development provides countless variations of personality. In his research, Fromm has shown what is the constant and what is the variable part of human nature, what is the relationship between the nature of human personality and dynamism which arises from the history and evolution of civilization, work, creativity and individuality of a man.
