Abstract

To Be for the Other: Phlilosophical Context of Care for Refugees in Work of Emmanuel Levinas. – The philosophical contemplation over the question of care for refugees is not merely an academic task. The main importance lies in the deeper understanding of my own responsibility for the Other and subsequent change in behaviour in accordance with this new understanding. Levinas poses an extreme level of responsibility on me, which is asymmetrical – I am always more responsible for the Other than the Other is for me. Even though Levinas’ philosophy due to its extreme position provokes many disagreements, it represents a highly inspirational source for contemplation over the moral context of the care for refugees.
