Abstract

Cultural Relativism and Plurality of Cultures as a Principal of Multicultural Education. – The text focuses on a statement that cultural diversity and cultural differences are not the source of conflicts by themselves. These conflicts are caused by superior approach, misunderstanding and intolerance of their bearers. The contribution further characterizes strategies, fundamental attitudes and approaches towards different cultures that arise from reactions to cultural diversity and different cultural manifestations. Foremost this concerns various graduated ethnocentrism and cultural relativism, both are more theoretically described in the contribution. Attention is also devoted to Euro-centrism as a specific manifestation of ethnocentrism. The conclusion accentuates the importance of cultural relativism and cultural pluralism as key principals in multicultural education.
