The Case of Garden Colonies in Kbely, Prague 19

Abstrakt

The article deals with a change of an urban space in Prague-Kbely as it was reflected in the municipal press, with special attention to the fate of allotment garden colonies. There used to be several garden colonies in the suburban Prague district of Kbely. In recent years some of them had to disappear in order to make space for new development of Kbely. We propose an analysis of how this change was reflected in the local municipal paper “Kbelák,” which is funded by the municipality and is distributed free to every household in the district.

Karolína Pauknerová

studied humanities and anthropology at the Faculty of Humanities and archaeology at the Faculty of  Philosophy and Arts, both at Charles University in Prague. She is interested in urban anthropology, the anthropology of landscape and theoretical concepts of the presentation of the past. She has lectured and led seminars at the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. Now she is starting her 2-year post-doctoral practice at the Center for Theoretical Studies in Prague.

Petr Gibas

graduated in cultural geography at UCL in London. He is currently pursuing his PhD in social anthropology at the Faculty of Humanities, Charles University in Prague. His interests concern industrial landscape, urban hybrid landscapes as well as urban anthropology. He has lectured at the Faculty of Humanities on both urban anthropology and landscape.
