Abstract

In the context of increasing digitalization of society, ensuring equal access to digital technologies for all population groups, including individuals with specific learning disabilities (SLD), is essential. This study aims to provide a deeper understanding of key aspects of digital accessibility for individuals with SLD, focusing on their personal experiences and the challenges they encounter when using digital technologies. The analysis primarily addresses subjectively perceived barriers and needs related to working with information in online environments, using mobile applications and services, and communicating through information and com-
munication technologies (ICT). Data were collected through an online questionnaire and focus group interviews. The questionnaire was completed by 183 respondents with developmental learning disabilities aged 16–65. The focus groups included individuals with SLD as well as experts in digital accessibility and counselling. The findings indicate that individuals with learning disabilities face significant challenges in accessing digital technologies, particularly due to a lack of systematic support in developing ICT skills and limited awareness of assistive technologies, which hinders their ability to effectively use digital tools. Another major barrier is the low level of user-friendliness in digital environments, often manifested in unclear and non-intuitive website and service design that does not sufficiently accommodate the specific needs of this target group.
