Abstract

The book Reader, Come Home: The Reading Brain in a Digital World (2020) by Maryanne Wolf, a globally recognized cognitive neuroscientist and psychologist, provides insights into the impact of digital technologies on reading processes and the development of reading skills. Wolf, director of the Center for Dyslexia, Diverse Learners, and Social Justice at UCLA, explores the transformation of the reading brain in the digital age, examining how reading can enhance critical thinking and support democratic values in society. Drawing on her extensive experience in neuroscience research, the history of writing systems, and her pedagogical practice, she illuminates how reading shapes cognitive and social development. This publication builds on her previous works, such as Proust and the Squid and Tales of Literacy for the 21st Century, and has become a significant contribution for both experts and the general public.
