Abstract

The second issue of the eighth volume of the journal Literacy, Preliteracy, and Education focuses on supporting early literacy and reading competencies, which are essential for successfully navigating the demands of modern educational environments. The contributions in this issue cover methodological, theoretical, and practical aspects of language development. The methodological study by Miroslava Nováková Schöffelová and Márina Mikulajová explores modifications to Elkonin's methodology, while Barbora Jindrová and Anna Kucharská discuss the role of metacognitive strategies in teaching and supporting reading comprehension. Another study by Markéta Švamberk Šauerová analyzes the project Noc s Andersenem (Night with Andersen) in the context of multilingual education and its impact on reading literacy. The issue concludes with a review of Zdeňka Lodlová's methodological guide for developing phonemic awareness in preschool children and an annual report on the I Read and Become a Reader conference, which bridges the gap between academia and practice. Overall, the issue offers valuable tools and inspiration for teaching practices focused on developing reading and language literacy.
