Abstract

This article presents a retrospective overview of ten years of the conference I Read and Become a Reader (2014–2024), held at the Faculty of Education, Charles University. The conference regularly brings together the academic community and educational practitioners with the aim of supporting the development of literacy and education in the broadest sense. The authors reflect on key milestones and statistics from the past decade, emphasising the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration among teachers, psychologists, special educators, school counselling centres, and other institutions and non-governmental organisations. The conference provides a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience between researchers and practising professionals, contributing to the enhancement of educational practice and methodologies for promoting reading and literacy. The thematic scope includes early reading, the development of various literacies, assessment tools, intervention programmes, and environmental factors influencing education. Personal interactions and mutual sharing of experiences are highlighted as a core benefit of the event, which has grown over ten years into a significant professional forum.
